A Thing Of Beauty is a Joy Forever

Objects of Desire’ is a brokerage, which acts for sellers and buyers of Fine Art and Antiques, and offers a discreet and efficient service.

It is owned and managed by Robert Jarman, who, as a former part owner, and Managing Director of Debrett’s Peerage Limited, published numerous catalogues for major Museum Exhibitions in the UK and the USA, and many books on Fine Art and Antiques.

As a result of these activities he met a wide range of important collectors of paintings, and other works of art, and their advisers, dealers, and the curators of their collections, as well as Museum Directors.

His business, ‘Objects of Desire’ works closely with the leading experts in each field, and specialises in the following areas:

British and European paintings, from Old Masters to the Impressionists and Post Impressionists, Modern and Contemporary Art. We also have a good selection of British Sporting Art, and Marine Paintings

Russian paintings and other works of art including Russian bronzes, and works by Carl Faberge, as well as other items with strong Russian provenance. We have a close working relationship with one of the UK’s leading dealers in Russian Art

18th and 19th Century British Furniture, including Georgian and Regency dining tables, and chairs, occasional tables, serving tables, cabinets, commodes, and candelabra etc. All the items we offer for sale have been inspected and verified by leading experts in their field

20th Century Silver dealing in works by all the leading designers and silversmiths, including Georg Jensen, Jean Puiforcat, Tiffany, Boucheron, Cartier, and Carl Faberge. Robert Jarman co-founded, and retains an interest in the Silver Fund Limited, which is the world’s leading dealer in Estate, ‘vintage’ Georg Jensen silver; (see their website at www.thesilverfund.com)

Antique Silver. We have a special relationship with one of Britain’s foremost dealers in antique silver, who has handled some of the finest antique silver for the past 25 years. They pride themselves on holding one of the finest selections of 16th, 17th, and 18th century English silver available globally on the market today, from the perspective of rarity, design and condition. We also deal with some of the most important private collectors of antique and modern silver.

The finest Antique Clocks and Barometers by the leading English and European makers, including Daniel Quare, Thomas Tompion, Joseph Knibb, George Graham, Abraham Louis Breguet, Ferdinand Berthoud etc. We work closely with Gerald Marsh, who is one of Britain’s leading Horologists, with an international clientele, having acted for, or dealt with, many of the world’s greatest clock collectors.

‘Objects of Desire’ has an impressive client base of discerning individuals who are keen to acquire various important paintings and other works of art, and a similar database of established collectors and private owners, who, from time to time, wish to sell various items quietly and discreetly. We act as broker to these two groups.

We also pride ourselves on being able to procure paintings by specific artists, and other works of art, which are not otherwise available, often from private collections.

We charge a commission of 10%, based on the net invoice value of a successful transaction, and this is normally payable by the vendor, unless we have been retained by the prospective purchaser to find a specific item, in which case we charge both seller and buyer the same commission.

Clients only pay us on completion of a sale, unless we agree a retainer to find a specific painting or work of art, or works by a specific artist.

One of the reasons our clients use our services is that they can be assured of complete discretion, and sales are concluded quietly and confidentially. We are also used to dealing with our client’s art advisers, and/or professional assessors, whom they retain to confirm the authenticity and value of proposed purchases, and we have never had an item rejected.

‘Objects of Desire’  works closely with some of the UK’s leading interior designers, including some specialist designers of interiors for boats and planes, and we are pleased to act on their behalf, in procuring paintings, prints, furniture, silver, clocks, and other works of art to complement their design schemes.

We offer these clients a Fine Art Consultancy Service, and procure paintings and other works of art for their yachts, and planes. We also offer a delivery service to various Mediterranean ports including Monte Carlo, Nice, Antibes, Cannes, St Tropez, Porto Cervo in Sardinia, and Palma, Mallorca.

Interesting Opportunities.  The financial crises of the past few years, and the resulting uncertain economic climate have created some very interesting opportunities for clients to acquire some important paintings and other works of art at extremely advantageous prices, and we pride ourselves on finding these opportunities for our clients.

To summarise, ‘Objects of Desire’ offers a personal and discreet service to sellers and buyers of fine paintings and other works of art, who prefer to avoid the expense and exposure of selling and/or buying at auction, or through a high profile dealer.
