This year, The Glenlivet Single Malt, in association with Country Life, is in search of our national landscapes’ most treasured elements, calling one and all to share their favourite natural legacies. The goal is to unearth natural treasures, places of beauty that have left an impact on the local community or Britain as a whole.

The Glenlivet is immensely proud of its own natural legacy, which began in the upper reaches of the highlands, where smugglers made their whisky in caves, in sheltered hollows, in holes in the ground, but always close to a source of pure spring water.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century there were 200 illicit stills operating in the Glenlivet area, and George and John Smith were the first to capture the character of the unique highland environment in 1824, with the first legal distillery in the Glenlivet Parish. The Glenlivet, the single malt that started it all, owes its unrivalled smoothness to the severe, rugged yet beautiful natural landscape from which it is crafted.
Now, The Glenlivet is interested in uncovering your natural legacies– hidden natural gems with meaning, beauty and heritage that hold particular significance to you. Legacies are at the heart of our identity, bringing together generations to celebrate who we are and what we are proud of. Be it the spreading branches of an ancient oak, the rolling hills of Dorset or the dramatic cliffs of the south coast, The Glenlivet is celebrating natural legacies across the country.
There will be four winning legacies and six runners-up selected by an esteemed judging panel including Country Life Editor, Mark Hedges. The four winners will enjoy a local celebration courtesy of The Glenlivet, and a plaque to commemorate the lasting importance of their legacy. The winners and runners up will also receive a bottle of The Glenlivet 21 year old and The Glenlivet 18 year old respectively, and their legacies will be photographed by Country Life photographers, whose images will be exhibited in central London this summer.
