To the Ancient Greeks, the Atlantic Ocean was unknown territory, full of mythical people, fantastical creatures, and strange lands. The huge island of Atlantis was said to be one of these strange lands. The island was sacred to Poseidon and got its name from the Greek words meaning “island of Atlas.”
Well, I have discovered another mystical place called the Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahia Real, in Fuerteventura, which is a stunning hotel surrounded by pure white sand beaches set in a turquoise sea, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, but only four hours from the UK.
The Atlantis Hotel is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the island of Fuerteventura, directly on the seafront at Correljos Natural Dune Parkland with wonderful views to the Islands of Lobos and Lanzarote.
Moorish and Colonial Spanish influences inspired the design and architecture of this state-of-the art hotel, which retains a simple charm.
This hotel has no competition on the island probably due to, amongst other attributes, its unique location, attention to even the smallest of details and an unbeatable repeat guest ratio. Offering luxurious accommodation, impeccable service and five exquisite restaurants, without forgetting the bespoke Spa Bahia Vital, some guests may never even venture out of the hotel.
I have always resisted any temptation to go to the Canary Islands, and I was especially put-off by the thought of ‘black’ volcanic sand’, but have always liked the look of Fuerteventura, with its pristine beaches and unspoilt fishing villages, and so I have succumbed to the temptation to visit it, and will be going later this year, when I will write a first-hand review of the Atlantis Hotel.
In the meantime, I will give you a ‘taster’ of what is on offer, which is a luxury hotel with 242 rooms, and suites, offering extreme comfort in a stunning setting.
There are several swimming pools and five different restaurants, offering numerous cuisines, and ranging from casual to very formal, and a Spa which offers all the treatments a pampered film star could wish for.
Anyway, I will let the photographs do the talking, and you will see why this hotel has won so many awards since opening in 2004, including the most recent, coveted Condé Nast Award for Excellence 2013: Most Excellent European Waterside Hotel by Condé Nast Johansens.
